HHP - Cut by 1 hour.

The cuts continue. Loosing an hour of Fright Nights was annoying, but loosing an hour of Halloween Hocus Pocus is a joke. This means the park closes at 7 which essentially means only an hour or two of any form of darkness.

Halloween Hocus Pocus was asking to be extended, because unlike Fright Nights the place was still rammed right up to closing time. Its not even going to be worth going now, they have a decent line up of walk through's at last - and now they just cut back on the one thing they needed. :banghead

Welcome domfranczak :)

You are right, as I said it needs to be extended not decreased. There is no valid reason to this either - Its certainly not going to have a positive impact.

Oh please mean good. The staff will be pleased to go home earlier as I bet they don't like the longer hours at Halloween. It's Chessington telling their staff that they don't want then so they might as well close early to save money. Saving money is what Merlin are all about these days and it is quite obvious that more and more cutbacks are going to be made. Next thing they'll be closing rides. I hope everyone is happy with the decision as I don't think Merlin are going to back down. Next year there may not be an event at all and Chessington will only be open till 5pm.

But how can it be extended? Merlin isn't going to let this happen so please be positive. If you weree staff then you'd be very pleased to be going home early.

Actually, if I were a member of staff I'd be disappointed to be earning less money than anticipated...

There is also the aspect that the completely different atmosphere a Park at night has, that the Staff may enjoy it from the heightened excitement from guests.

This is sounding very much like someone in Dorset, sitting with a spreadsheet and saying "shave 5% here and 3% there, noone will notice."

Well, this is a shame, but almost expected, what with cutbacks we've seen across the board, and the later opening hours of Wild Asia and Mystic East...

As has been said, permanent staff will be disappointed at losing an hour's work, and I believe that it's the case in all parks that some ride staff put in a lot of out-of-hours work to give the rides they work on that 'little bit extra'?

Also, wasn't last year the first time they had the mazes open all day? Perhaps that was even to test the water, if you will, for how popular they'd be during the day, anticpating the possibility of losing an hour's night for this season?

The thing is, if this is money saving, then there's no chance they'll open later (ie 11-8 rather than 10-7), as being open for less time when it's dark means saving on electricity, heating, etc. etc. for guest's comfort. Again, this is a shame.

You do have to wonder how much further - and how much longer - such cutbacks will last. We've seen at Alton fans and the GP throw practically hissy fits at some decisions; you do wonder when (not if) that will happen with a decision by Chessie...
